Pune, 23rd April 2025: Pune’s Civic Hospitals are set for a major policy revamp, Aundh’s Municipal Swimming Pool is scheduled to reopen soon, and urgent action is being taken to remove water hyacinth from the Mula-Mutha rivers. These initiatives were announced following meetings led by Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials to address key civic issues in Shivajinagar constituency.

MLA Shirole has directed the PMC Health Department to establish a clear policy for efficiently running civic hospitals and to appoint specialist doctors to improve service quality. Discussions with health officials covered ongoing upgrades at Dr. Homi J Bhabha Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Late Droupadabai Murlidhar Khedekar General Hospital & Trauma Centre, Shewale Hospital, and Dalvi Hospital. The Dr. Homi J Bhabha Hospital renovation is on track for completion by July, while efforts are underway to expedite the opening of maternity wards at Sanjay Gandhi and Dalvi Hospitals.

In response to repeated citizen complaints, Shirole confirmed that the Aundh municipal swimming pool, which has been closed for maintenance, will be reopened soon. He has instructed the sports department to resolve minor repair issues at Aundh and other pools, and to ensure adequate safety and water quality measures for all users.

Additionally, the PMC is moving quickly to clear invasive water hyacinth from the Mula and Mutha rivers in the Bopodi and Yerawada areas. Contractors have already been appointed, and work is underway to remove the aquatic weed, which has caused environmental and drainage concerns. The Khadki Cantonment Board is also assisting in cleaning the river near Holkar Bridge.
