Vadgaonsheri, 23rd April 2025: In a bid to address severe traffic congestion on the Pune-Ahilyanagar Highway, Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapusaheb Pathare conducted a detailed inspection of proposed alternative routes with senior Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials. The inspection focused on key stretches, including the Kharadi-Shivane riverbank road, the 509 Chowk to Dhanori Old Jakat Naka, and the Pune International Airport to Ramwadi Corridor—routes considered vital to alleviating the chronic traffic woes faced by commuters in Pune’s eastern corridor.

Pathare emphasised the urgent need for immediate action on alternative traffic solutions, highlighting that the ongoing congestion is largely due to incomplete infrastructure projects, encroachments, and delayed land acquisition, particularly along the Kharadi-Shivane route. The current lack of alternative routes forces all traffic onto the Pune-Ahilyanagar Highway, resulting in long travel times and frequent bottlenecks, especially with increased airport traffic and heavy vehicle movement.

PMC engineers assured that work on these alternative roads will be completed within the next year, and administrative steps are being taken to expedite land acquisition and construction. Pathare also held discussions with municipal officials to resolve long-pending issues related to land acquisition for the Kharadi-Shivane road and instructed them to find solutions through administrative channels.

With the Pune-Ahilyanagar Highway serving as a critical link for residents and businesses in Kharadi, Viman Nagar, and surrounding areas, the development of these alternative routes is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. The PMC is also preparing a comprehensive mobility plan to guide future infrastructure projects and ensure efficient traffic management in the rapidly growing eastern region of Pune.
