The Pune Chapter of GDG hosted its 10th edition at JW Marriott on Sunday. Various experts opined that understanding end users and the market with diversity in the tech community will enable innovation and better opportunities and products. Over 45 industry experts deliberated on more than 20 technologies across three tracks and focused on how product innovation, open source, ML and AI can propel enterprises forward and solve problems.

Karthik Padmanabhan, developer relations lead at Google India, said, “We want to build an inclusive community taking care of each other. A massive change is happening on the ground as to how developers are thinking, skilling themselves and focusing on what is next – topics like product management and how to design products are getting a lot of attention. It needs support from a diverse community. Pune -GDG is a diverse and vibrant community. GDG encourages people from all walks of life to come together and share. The more diverse the community is, the more innovation can happen to create more opportunities. Gender and Regional diversity are equally important. The more we engage with a diverse community, the better the product. Devfest is an annual celebration of this spirit.”

Job portal to connect employers and employees

As layoffs and pay cuts continue in large companies, smaller companies are struggling to find the right talent. To bridge this gap, CDG Pune has launched an initiative to connect employers and prospective employees on its website. Starting with 15 companies, the initiative will onboard 100 companies within the next three to four months.

The technical conference is a perfect platform for young developers, with a full day of conference talks, workshops and networking sessions with the world’s leading industry experts and top practitioners focusing on multiple technologies. The fest included a Project Showcase Booth for companies and communities. It also had a career fair – an opportunity for local developers that are a part of Google Developer Groups and a Community Lounge, a dedicated lounge for informal sessions, that gave a chance for like-minded attendees to gather and discuss tools, topics and technologies in a relaxed setting. Each DevFest event is crafted by its local organizers to fit the learning needs and interests of their local developer community, with a strong focus on knowledge exchange and networking.

One of the highlights of DevFest Pune has been the participation of Women entrepreneurs and techies.
