Pune, 13th December 2022: Students studying in the first year of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) have not received hostel facilities till now. It has been three months since the completion of the admission process.
Students have been moved out of the hostel amid the ongoing examinations. The Registrar was requested on behalf of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to relax the biometric device till the time the first-year students get to the hostel, but he did not accede to the demand.
Students from all over the world come to study at the university. Poor students cannot afford rooms outside of the campus. Along with this, many students try to complete their education under the earn-and-learn scheme.
On Monday (12th December), students had to sleep on the streets.
Mahadev Ranga, ABVP’s Pune University President, said, “Such plight of students in a reputed university in India is one of the reasons that tarnishes the image of the university. The university administration is responsible for this poor management. The senior officials of the administration should have taken the role of guardians, but they did not find the need to understand the problems of the students,” he added further.
Ranga further stated that the hostel admission process should be completed as soon as possible, otherwise ABVP will continue the agitation.
