Pune Hosts Africa-India Training Exercise and Army Chiefs Conclave for Second Edition

Pune, 18th March 2023: The second edition of Africa-India Field Training Exercise, (Ex AFINDEX-2023) and India-Africa Army Chiefs Conclave is scheduled from 21 March 2023 to 30 March 2023. The event is important from the perspective of India-Africa relations wherein Army Chief’s / representatives of Chief’s from 21 African countries are attending the event and 24 African Nations are being represented by their contingents / observers.

The aim of the exercise is to enable the participating contingents to hone their tactical skills, drills and procedures in joint operations for peacekeeping under UN mandate, create synergy and better understanding with Armies of African nations and promote Indian Defence Industries. 

EXERCISE AFINDEX-2023.

(a) The 10 days long exercise will commence on 21 March 2023 with an opening ceremony scheduled at Foreign Training Node, Aundh, Pune. A comprehensive validation exercise on the theme “Humanitarian Mine Actions & Peace Keeping Operations” under the UN mandate is also scheduled during this exercise.

(b) The Joint exercise will promote the idea of “Africa-India Militaries for Regional Unity (AMRUT)” and will focus on incorporating the current dynamics of UN peace keeping operations (UNPKF) through practical and comprehensive discussions and tactical exercise. The collective effort will also focus on achieving the desired interoperability and cohesive operational ability of the troops from all participating Nations thus reducing the risk of life & property during peace keeping operations.

Africa-India Chief’s Conclave

(a) The conclave is being held at Hotel JW Marriot on 28 Mar 2023. It includes talk by renowned speakers on the issue of India-Africa Defence partnership and India Defence Industry potential & contribution towards regional security. Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will be the Chief guest for the occasion and will be addressing the conclave.

(b) In view of the challenging global orders and evolving new security challenges, the conclave will provide an opportunity to all participating nations to come together to address these challenges in an institutionalized manner thus enhancing regional cooperation. The participating nations will also be give an exposure to the Indian Defence Industry and the ongoing impetus under various mechanism like “Make in India” & “Aatmnirbhar Bharat”.  Visit and interaction with various Defence production / Industries and African representatives is also planned during the conclave.

The Africa-India Training Exercise & the Chief’s Conclave will also aim at sending a strong message to the world of the Intent, Commitment and Capabilities of the Militaries of the participating nations towards maintaining World Peace and upholding the mandate of UN.
