Pune: Housekeeping Woman Staff Abused And Assaulted For Refusing Gutkha Cleanup In Housing Society Near Hinjawadi
Hinjawadi, 20th August 2023: A housekeeping staff member was subjected to verbal abuse and physical assault by a young man and his mother at a housing society near Hinjawadi in Pune on August 16th.
The incident occurred after she declined to clean gutkha stains on the stairs as she was tasked to pick up garbage. A video capturing the incident has rapidly spread across social media platforms.
Following a complaint filed by the 40-year-old woman staff member, employed as a housekeeping maid at MP Residency in Marunji, the Hinjawadi Police Station (Pimpri Chinchwad police) has recorded a non-cognizable (NC) offence against Anurag Alkunte and his mother Sangeeta Alkunte. The formal First Information Report (FIR) is still pending registration.
The police’s perceived inaction in this matter has ignited frustration among MP Residency residents. They are insisting that the authorities take stringent action against the alleged perpetrators and guarantee the safety of all residents, including the domestic workers.
