Pune: Husband Divorces Wife Through Triple Talaq Outside Police Station, FIR Registered

Pune, November 13, 2020: A husband divorced his wife through ‘triple talaq’ outside a police station because she was not having any child and he had doubts about her character. However, a case was immediately registered against the woman’s husband and her mother-in-law at the Kondhwa police station for offences under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.

Rehan Ilyas Shaikh and Farida Ilyas Shaikh, residents of Bhagyodaynagar, Kondhwa are the names of the accused. In this case with the help Adv Sajid Shah the complainant registered a complaint at the Kondhwa police station.

According to police, the complainant and Rehan Sheikh were married in 2015. A few days after the marriage, the mother-in-law started abusing the complainant. Since her husband was not working, she was working as a Mehendi artist. Her husband used to snatch her earnings and assaulted her frequently. He also used Rs 5 lakh which was saved by the complainant.

The husband began to blame the wife for not having a child and suspected the character of the complainant and harassed her physically and mentally. He was also threatening her parents by beating her. The complainant had filed the case in 2017 in this regard. The complainant questioned her husband after it was revealed that he was having an obscene chat with another woman on his mobile phone. At that moment, he assaulted her and threatened to divorce her.

She was evicted from the house and was asked to bring Rs 10 lakh from her parents. The complainant had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint. At that time, her husband went there, abused her, uttered ‘talaq’ thrice and left. Following the incident, she filed a case against her husband and mother-in-law for domestic violence, intimidation, conspiracy to commit assault as well as under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
