Pune-Hyderabad IndiGo Flight Delayed for 6 Hours; Passengers Stranded Inside Aircraft

Pune, 21st May 2025: Over 150 passengers on an IndiGo flight from Pune to Hyderabad endured a harrowing wait of nearly six hours inside the aircraft on Tuesday due to a series of technical and operational delays.

The flight, initially scheduled to depart at 8:40 AM (Flight 6E-6473), eventually took off only at 4:15 PM — after a delay of nearly eight hours.
Many passengers expressed frustration over being kept onboard for hours with little clarity. As agitation mounted around 1:20 PM, airline staff finally allowed passengers to disembark.

Prasad Bidve tweeted, “8.40 AM Flight 6E 6473 from PNQ to HYD got delayed due to defense activity, then birds, then refuellng & now due to technical issues. It’s 12.40 PM & no sight of the flight taking off. Although, IndiGo provided refreshments to d passengers.”

A passenger on the fligh, said boarding was completed by 8:20 AM, but the aircraft remained stationary. “Initially, the crew cited defence-related activities as the reason for the delay. Later, they mentioned bird activity near the runway, which extended the delay further,” he said.

According to the passengers, the reasons kept changing. “Then they said the aircraft required refuelling. It felt strange because everything seemed ready for takeoff an hour earlier. After refuelling, they announced a technical issue with the plane, and that took more time.”

Around midday, passengers started demanding answers. “By 1:20 PM, tensions were rising. Some passengers insisted on getting off, arguing that their plans in Hyderabad had already fallen apart. That’s when the crew opened the doors,” the passenger added.

However, some passengers opted to stay onboard after receiving a message from the airline suggesting the revised departure time was 2:00 PM. “But by 2:00 PM, we got another update pushing it to 4:00 PM. At that point, I gave up, got off the flight, and booked a different one for the evening.”
Another passenger, Vishal Damgude, said he cancelled his travel plans entirely. “I’ve rescheduled my flight for Wednesday instead,” he said.

An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating: “Flight 6E-6473 from Pune to Hyderabad on May 20 was delayed due to a technical issue. An alternate aircraft was arranged, and refreshments were provided to passengers. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused.”
