Viman Nagar, 6th January 2026: An Indian Air Force (IAF) airman has been booked for allegedly obstructing official duty, assaulting a traffic policeman and damaging a breathalyser device during a drunk-driving check in the Viman Nagar area late Saturday night.

The incident took place around 11.30 pm on January 3 when the airport traffic division was conducting a routine drunk-and-drive enforcement drive as part of a citywide crackdown ordered by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar to curb alcohol-related road accidents.

According to a complaint filed by police constable Anand Gosavi of the airport traffic division, the accused airman, a resident of the Air Force residential colony in Lohgaon, was riding a two-wheeler when he was stopped at a checkpoint in Viman Nagar for a breathalyser test. During the check, the airman allegedly got into an argument with the constable, pushed him and forcibly snatched the breathalyser, damaging the device.

Other police personnel deployed at the checkpoint immediately intervened and detained the accused. After being informed of the incident, senior police inspector Govind Jadhav of the Vimantal police station visited the spot. Assistant police inspector Shirsath is carrying out further investigation.

A case has been registered against the airman for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of official duty and for assault. Police said a notice has been issued to the accused as part of the legal procedure.
