Pune, 21st May 2021: Anticipating that the third Covid-19 wave will affect the children, special ICU and oxygen beds will be kept reserved at the jumbo COVID centre in Shivajinagar.

This will be the second facility in the city after Dalvi hospital in Shivajinagar. At the jumbo centre, 10 oxygen beds and 10 ICU beds will be kept reserved. A special paediatric panel also has been appointed, said additional municipal commissioner Rubal Agarwal.

“We have taken these steps as precautionary measures. A few beds will be available at Late Rajiv Gandhi Hospital at Yerwada too. There is less possibility for children requiring ventilator facilities, unlike the adults. However, they might need oxygen beds”, she added.

Change in the software of the ventilators

A change is required to be made in the ventilators to be used for the children. All the ventilators are made for adults so initially, we will have five ventilators designed for children, Agarwal further informed.
