Lohgaon, 26th February 2026: Residents of the JD Gaatha residential area in Lohgaon have sought immediate intervention from elected representatives and authorities, alleging that unchecked illegal shops, late-night disturbances, violence and noise pollution have created a climate of fear in the locality.

In a written complaint to Lohgaon police, residents said they have been living on Porwal Road for the past eight months but now regret moving there due to deteriorating law and order conditions.

According to the residents, stepping out after 6 pm has become risky, with frequent incidents of rash vehicle movement from behind and threats to personal safety. They alleged that opposing or questioning miscreants often results in groups of 30 to 40 people gathering and assaulting residents. “There have been several incidents of violence, some of which were recorded and shared earlier with the authorities,” the complaint stated.

The residents claimed that several unauthorised shops operating in front of their building — including egg stalls, paan and masala outlets, Chinese food stalls and cigarette kiosks — remain open throughout the night. “Shopkeepers cannot be questioned, as it immediately leads to fights. There is also information that these stalls pay regular hafta to local police personnel,” the residents alleged.

They further complained that groups of youths consume alcohol on the road through the night, shout loudly and frequently get into fights. “Anyone who tries to reason with them is chased and beaten. After midnight, around 20 to 25 Bullet motorcycles with modified silencers roam the area, creating explosive noise,” the complaint said.

Residents said the situation has made the area unsafe and unliveable. They also pointed out that despite submitting written complaints twice at the local police station, no concrete action has been taken so far.

Appealing directly to the MLA, residents said that as the elected representative of the constituency, he is accountable for addressing local issues related to public safety. They urged coordinated action by the Pune Municipal Corporation, the Pune Police and the district administration against unauthorised constructions, encroachments and illegal late-night businesses.

The residents have demanded immediate steps to curb street violence, noise pollution and illegal commercial activity, and to restore peace and safety in the Lohgaon area. They said they have high expectations from their representative, who had promised development, citizen safety and resolution of local problems during the elections, and have sought a prompt response along with details of action taken.
