Pune, 9th October 2026: The land acquisition process for the proposed Pune Inner Ring Road is gaining momentum, with residents of several villages in Mulshi, Maval and Haveli talukas responding positively to pre-survey meetings organised by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). Land surveys have been scheduled in four villages in Mulshi, while surveys will begin in Manjari Khurd on October 13 and Kolwadi on October 15.

The proposed Inner Ring Road is planned to be 65 metres wide, with nine-metre-wide service roads on either side. PMRDA is holding meetings with affected villagers to explain the land acquisition process, the method of compensation assessment and the procedures involved, while addressing concerns raised by farmers.

In Mulshi taluka, residents of Hinjawadi, Jambe, Marunji and Nande have agreed to the land survey. The surveys are scheduled for October 12, 13, 15 and 17, respectively. Discussions are also underway with residents of Nere and Maan to address local demands and concerns.

In Haveli taluka, a joint land survey will begin in Manjari Khurd on October 13. At a meeting held at the Kolwadi Gram Panchayat office, farmers agreed to the survey, following discussions with Vitthal Udmale, Deputy Collector (Land Acquisition). The survey is scheduled to begin on October 15.

PMRDA outlines compensation assessment process

PMRDA officials said that once the survey identifies the affected land, the relevant departments will assess structures and assets on the land, including houses, trees, wells, borewells and pipelines.

After the land acquisition notification is issued, details of land transactions over the preceding three years will be obtained to assess land values. Compensation will be determined after considering the relevant transactions and prevailing market rates, officials said.

During the Kolwadi meeting, farmers demanded compensation in line with market rates, similar to the rates sought for Manjari Khurd. Ashok Ahale, a farmer and journalist, urged the administration to convene a meeting at the earliest to discuss compensation, stating that fair payment for acquired land was essential for the project to move forward.

Udmale said a meeting would be organised to discuss compensation after the survey was completed and details of the affected land were made public. He assured farmers that their demands would be considered and that the administration would take steps to ensure that no affected farmer was treated unfairly.

“Priority is being given to farmers’ interests, and the land acquisition process is being carried out transparently. After the land survey, compensation will be assessed by considering market rates and relevant land transactions. The administration is taking care to ensure that no affected farmer suffers injustice,” Udmale said.

The Kolwadi meeting was attended by Yashwant Cooperative Sugar Factory Vice-Chairman Kishor Undre, Nitesh Zule, Umesh Murkute, Sadashiv Undre, Madhukar Undre, Shivaji Shetake and Ananda Undre, along with Kolwadi Gram Panchayat clerk Santosh Gaikwad and affected farmers. PMRDA officials, including branch engineer Kartik Patil, junior clerk Rohit Chopade, survey staff member Madan Barbare and village revenue officer Arjun Sali, were also present.

Maval villagers raise demands

In Dhamane village in Maval taluka, residents attended a meeting at the Padmavati Devi temple and presented various suggestions and demands concerning local development. The administration said it had taken note of the suggestions.

PMRDA aims to complete the land acquisition process for the Inner Ring Road by the end of December 2026.

Poonam Mehta, Joint Commissioner of PMRDA’s Land and Estate Department, said the process was being advanced through discussions with villagers, transparent procedures and a focus on the interests of affected farmers. She expressed hope that the completed project would help reduce traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
