Pune, 15th November 2022: Under the same water supply scheme, where water meters have been installed, if the person uses more than 150 litres of water per day, the municipal corporation has warned of legal action. But now, it has come to light that water meters have not been installed in the municipal commissioner and mayor’s bungalow and other offices. The Sajag Nagrik Manch demanded that meters should be installed at the officials’ houses first, and their water consumption should be made clear.

“Legal action notices have been issued to those citizens whose water consumption per capita is more than 150 litres per day after the installation of house-to-house meters. Against this backdrop, on Right to Information Day today, information was sought from the head of the Water Supply Office about how much water is used per capita per day in all places such as the mayor’s bungalow, commissioner’s residence, additional commissioner’s residence, and collector’s bungalow. But at that time, the reply was that water meters have not been installed in these places,” said Vivek Velankar, President of Sajag Nagrik Manch.

“Municipal authorities say that citizens should cooperate, but the amount of water they use is still not checked. First of all, water meters should be installed at the residences of all government and semi-government officials in Pune, and the amount of water consumption should be revealed. Also, it has been demanded that this order should be given to install water meters in the societies of all officers and employees of the municipal corporation on a priority basis,” Velankar said.

Anirudh Pavaskar, Head of the Water Supply Department, said, “Meters have been installed in the societies of the employees and officers of the Water Supply Department. Meters will be installed in Commissionerate and other government residences in a phased manner.”
