Pune International Airport Implements Smart Visual Docking Guidance System

Pune, 7th February 2025: Pune Airport has launched a new Smart Visual Docking Guidance System, eliminating the need for manual marshalling of aircraft. This advanced technology will streamline the parking process for incoming planes, enhancing both efficiency and safety at the airport.
The system, integrated with the airport’s automated operation control centre, will provide pilots with real-time information directly in the cockpit. This includes guidance on which parking bay to use and where to stop for an aerobridge connection. Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke stated that this system is significantly safer and faster compared to traditional docking procedures.
With ten parking bays and ten aerobridges, Pune Airport’s new smart docking system will be utilised as aircraft approach their designated spots. The technology employs sensors, cameras, and artificial intelligence to ensure precise and swift aircraft parking. This innovation is expected to reduce the risk of accidents on the tarmac and optimise the use of parking spaces.
The implementation of this system brings several benefits to airport operations. It allows for more accurate and faster aircraft parking, provides essential information to pilots without the need for ground personnel, and helps in the efficient utilisation of parking slots. Additionally, it is anticipated to save time for passengers and potentially increase the number of available slots for flights.
This marks the first time Pune Airport has employed such a system, joining other major airports in the country that have already adopted similar technology. The move is part of ongoing efforts to modernise and improve the airport’s infrastructure and operational capabilities.
