Pune Tourists Assaulted and Tied Up in Sindhudurg Hotel Dispute
Pune/Sindhudurg, 7th February 2025: A shocking incident of violence against a tourist from Pune has been reported in Sindhudurg District, Maharashtra. Six individuals, including a hotel owner, allegedly assaulted and tied up the tourist following a dispute over a cup of tea. The Kudal Police have registered a case against the accused.
The victim, identified as Rupesh Baban Sakpal (33) from Katraj, Pune, was travelling to Goa with friends when the incident occurred on Thursday morning around 6:30 AM near Zarap Zero Point on the Mumbai-Goa highway.
According to Police Inspector Rajendra Magdum of Kudal, the altercation began when Sakpal noticed a fly in his tea and requested a replacement. The hotel owner, Tanvir Karamat Shaikh, allegedly refused to provide a new cup, leading to a verbal dispute that escalated into physical violence.
The accused reportedly tied up Sakpal’s hands and feet, laid him on the road, and assaulted him until his clothes were torn. Sakpal’s companion, Sanjay Sudam Chavan from Pune, was also allegedly beaten during the incident.
The police have filed charges against six individuals: Tanvir Karamat Shaikh, Sharafat Abbas Shaikh (57), Abbas alias Sahil Sharafat Shaikh (18), Parvin Sharafat Shaikh (42), Sajmin Sharafat Shaikh (19), and Talah Karamat Shaikh (26). All the accused are residents of Kudal.
Sub-Inspector Ganesh Karhadkar is investigating under the guidance of Police Inspector Rajendra Magdum.
