Pune, July 9, 2020: The ‘no work no pay’ system started by several IT companies in Pune since they have been prohibited from laying off employees has become a new concern for those working in IT sectors. Many people have filed complaints against IT companies in this regard.

When lockdown began, several companies tried to lay off their employees. However, on complaints by employees, these companies were prohibited from letting employees go during the lockdown. However, to avoid legal problems, these companies have adopted ‘no work no pay’. While the employees still have their jobs, the IT company managements are neither giving their work and hence nor their salaries. Over 1,500 in the city have been facing this issue.

With almost no new work opportunities due to lockdown and no salaries, the IT employees are struggling to make ends meet along with EMIs and other premiums.

“Many companies are using the strategy of not giving any work to their employees expecting that the employees will leave on their own accord. This is totally wrong, and we have received several complaints regarding the same. We will soon be taking the matter ahead to the Labour Commissioner,” said Harprit Saluja of National Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES).
