Pune: IT Employees Plan Protest Over Crumbling Infrastructure in Hinjewadi on July 26
Pune, 25th July 2026: IT employees in Hinjewadi IT Park are set to hit the streets over crumbling civic infrastructure, with the Forum for IT Employees calling for a major protest demanding pothole-free roads, safe footpaths, reliable water supply and uninterrupted electricity on July 26. The organisation has alleged that despite IT professionals contributing significantly to the country’s economy and paying substantial taxes, the government has failed to provide basic infrastructure in one of India’s largest IT hubs.
The Forum for IT Employees has convened a meeting on Saturday at 12 pm near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Phase I of Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park to finalise the strategy for the proposed agitation, which is expected to be held on Sunday.
In a statement, the organisation said IT professionals contribute to nation-building through taxes and economic growth and therefore deserve quality infrastructure. It alleged that governments have continued to make promises but have failed to deliver lasting solutions, making it necessary for employees to launch a protest.
The agitation comes amid growing concerns over the state of infrastructure in Hinjewadi. Despite its importance to the state’s economy, employees say civic amenities in and around the IT park have steadily deteriorated over the years.
The issue has resurfaced following a series of monsoon-related disruptions. Last year, large parts of the IT park were submerged after heavy rains, severely affecting traffic and office operations. This year, prolonged power outages have emerged as the biggest concern. Heavy rainfall led to waterlogging in several areas, forcing authorities to shut down electrical infrastructure as a precaution. Water entering electrical installations damaged equipment, and continuous rainfall delayed restoration work, leaving parts of the IT park and nearby areas, including Ravet, Kiwale, Punawale and Wakad, without electricity for more than 72 hours in some locations.
Apart from recurring power outages, employees have raised concerns over pothole-ridden roads, unsafe pedestrian infrastructure and unreliable water supply, saying these longstanding issues continue to affect thousands of professionals commuting to the IT park every day.
The proposed protest is expected to draw participation from IT professionals across Hinjewadi as they seek immediate government action to improve infrastructure in the country’s leading technology hub.
