Dry Day Today: Liquor Sale is Prohibited Across Maharashtra Including Pune on July 25

Pune, 25th July 2026: Liquor sales will remain completely prohibited across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and all other districts, on Saturday, July 25, in observance of Ashadhi Ekadashi, in accordance with state government and Maharashtra State Excise Department regulations.

As part of the dry day, all liquor shops, wine stores, licensed bars, pubs and restaurants serving alcohol will remain closed throughout the day. Sale or service of alcoholic beverages during the prohibition period will be treated as a violation of the law. Authorities have warned that establishments found flouting the rules could face stringent action, including cancellation of their licences.

Ashadhi Ekadashi is one of the most significant religious festivals in Maharashtra. Every year, lakhs of Warkaris and devotees gather in Pandharpur to offer prayers at the Vitthal-Rukmini temple. Temples across the state organise bhajans, kirtans, special pujas and other religious programmes to mark the occasion.

The state government imposes a dry day every year on Ashadhi Ekadashi to maintain law and order and preserve the sanctity of the religious celebrations.

According to the Hindu calendar, the Ekadashi tithi began at 9.12 am on Friday, July 24, and will end at 11.34 am on Saturday, July 25. Since the tithi prevails at sunrise on Saturday, the main observance of Ashadhi Ekadashi, including fasting, prayers and rituals, will take place on July 25. The day also marks the beginning of Chaturmas, a four-month sacred period in the Vaishnav tradition.
