Wadgaon Sheri, 9th October 2026: A 30-year-old IT engineer was found dead in his rented flat in the Somnath Nagar area of Wadgaon Sheri, Pune, with police suspecting that he may have suffered an electric shock while sleeping with an electric hot water bag under his neck.

The deceased has been identified as Rohan Kubadi, who lived alone in the rented flat and had moved into the accommodation around three months ago.

The incident came to light after the landlord noticed a foul smell coming from the flat and found that Kubadi was not responding to phone calls. When the landlord opened the door, Kubadi was found dead on the bed. His body is believed to have remained in the flat for about two days.

After receiving information about the incident, personnel from Chandan Nagar Police Station visited the spot and began an investigation.

According to the preliminary information, an electric hot water bag was found under Kubadi’s neck, suggesting that he may have been using it to relieve pain while sleeping. Police suspect that an electrical fault in the device may have caused his death. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been established.

Police said the post-mortem report and examination of the electric hot water bag would help determine whether an electric shock caused the death or whether another factor was responsible.

Caution urged while using electric heating devices
Hot water bags are commonly used to relieve neck pain, backache and abdominal discomfort. Electrically rechargeable hot water bags have also become increasingly popular. However, the incident highlights the potential risks associated with electrical heating devices if they malfunction or are used improperly.

Note: The cause of Kubadi’s death remains unconfirmed, and further conclusions will depend on the findings of the medical examination and the police investigation.
