Pune IT Engineer Found Dead at TCS Campus in Hinjawadi, Police Suspect Suicide

Hinjawadi, 6th January 2026: A 24-year-old software engineer was found dead inside the premises of an IT company in Hinjawadi Phase 3 in the early hours of Tuesday, in an incident that has raised concerns over mental health stress among young professionals.

The deceased has been identified as Sujal Vinod Oswal, a resident of Wanowrie in Pune, police said.

Oswal was employed with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and was working at the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park in Hinjawadi, located in Mulshi tehsil. According to police, he entered the company campus late at night and went to the canteen area, where he locked himself inside a restroom.

Initial investigations indicate that Oswal allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself with a mobile charging cable. The incident is believed to have taken place shortly after midnight.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Vishal Gaikwad said the timeline of events is being verified. “Based on preliminary information, the incident appears to have occurred between 12.30 am and 12.45 am. The deceased went into a restroom within the company premises and allegedly used a charging cable to take his life,” he said.

DCP Gaikwad added that Oswal had sent a message to his family members shortly before the incident. “In the message, he expressed extreme distress and mentioned financial losses suffered through online betting. This appears to be a significant factor behind the incident, though further investigation is underway,” he said.

Police officials from the Hinjawadi police station rushed to the spot after receiving an alert and found Oswal unresponsive. He was declared dead at the scene. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

A spot panchnama has been conducted, and an Accidental Death Report (ADR) is being registered at the Hinjawadi police station. Police said they are examining Oswal’s mobile phone and other personal details as part of the investigation.
