Pune: Japanese Moyuka Uchijima emerges winner at 25K NECC DECCAN ITF womens World Tour Tennis championships
Pune, December 25: Unseeded Japanese Moyuka Uchijima continued her upset spree putting out fourth seeded Diana Marcinkevica of Latvia 6-2, 7-5 to emerge singles champion at the 20th edition of the NECC Deccan ITF $25000 Women’s Tennis Tournament organised under the auspices of the ITF, AITA and MSLTA by Deccan Gymkhana and sponsored by National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) which concluded at the Deccan Gymkhana Tennis Courts.
Top seeded Anna Danilina of Kazakhstan and Valeriya Strakhova of Ukraine claimed the doubles title getting past Funa Kozaki and Misaki Matsuda of Japan 6-0, 2-6, 10-5 in the doubles finals.
It was a great three weeks for Japanese Tennis, with junior Sara Saito winning two back to back ITF junior events at Deccan Gymkhana 20 year old Moyuka Uchijima capped the hattrick winning her first ever $25000 event of her career. Uchijima led 6-2,5-3 before the Latvian Diana Marcinkevica clawd her way back to level second set scores at 5-5 , but Uchijima played superbly, served consistently to hold on to her nerves and become the second Japanese to win the NECC -Deccan Gymkhana ITF title . Japanese Rika Fujiwara had earlier won the title in 2009.
The Singles winner got $3935 ( Rs 295536) and 65points, while runner up received $2107 (Rs158245) and 40points. The doubles winner got $1437 (1,07932) while the runners up got $ 719 ( Rs 54000)
The prizes were given away at the hands of Mr BSR Shastri General Manager NECC Mr.Sunder Iyer, Hon.Sec.of MSLTA, Mr. Vishwas Lokare, VP of MSLTA, Mr.Girish Inamdar, Hon. Secretary of Deccan Gymkhana. Mr.Ashwin Girme, tennis secretary of Deccan Gymkhana, Mr.Mihir Kelkar, Finance Secretary of Deccan Gymkhana, ITF supervisor Sheetal Iyer were present on the occasion.
