Pune: Jumbo COVID Centre In Shivajinagar To Shutdown From January 1
Pune, December 30, 2020: Jumbo COVID centre at College of Engineering Pune (COEP) ground in Shivajinagar will be closed from 1st January. No new patients will be admitted to the facility. The expenses to build and operate Jumbo facility in the last six months is Rs 105 crore.
The 800 beds temporary hospital was set up by the Pune Municipal corporation (PMC) to provide treatment for the covid-19 patients from Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune district. It was set up for the six months period, which is completed in December 2020. Currently, 137 patients are receiving treatment in this facility.
“The number of patients is very less and the expenses to run this facility is high. Therefore we have decided to shut down this centre as the number is patients are decreasing. We will provide treatment to patients in other hospitals”, said Saurabh Rao, Divisional Commissioner, Pune.
He further informed, “We will keep the jumbo’s medical equipment and other systems so that it will be used if needed in future. The Jumbo covid centre in PCMC area will remain active.”
PMC’s assistant health in-charge Dr Sanjeev Wavare said, “The number of patients is less in nowadays. We have enough facilities at Sassoon Hospital and Naidu Hospital. Other than that we also have COVID centres in Baner. Sufficient manpower is also available in these centres so there is no need to continue the Jumbo facility in Shivajinagar.”
