Baramati, 28th April 2023: A case has been filed against two individuals for making offensive statements during a Hindu Garjana Morcha in Baramati.

The accused, Kalicharan Maharaj alias Abhijit Dhananjay Sarag and organizer Vikas Mahadev Devkate, have been charged under Section 153 A of the Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Police Act. The complaint was filed by policeman Atul Jadhav, who stated that the march held on February 9 contained statements that could incite communal tension.

The police had issued a notice to Devkate prior to the march, warning him not to violate the ban on assembly. Despite this, the march went ahead and ended at Teen Hatti Chowk in the city. The prosecution alleges that Kalicharan Maharaj spread rumors by making controversial statements that could create religious discord.

There has been discussion in the city regarding the delayed filing of the case by the police. While the police closely monitored the video clip of the march, it has been questioned why action was not taken sooner. This case highlights the need for swift action by law enforcement authorities to prevent the spread of hate speech and incitement of communal tension.
