Pune Gang Posing as UP MLAs and Ministers Arrested for Cheating Businessman of Rs 5.34 Lakh

Wanowrie, 28th April 2023: Pune police have arrested a gang of five people who posed as MLAs and ministers of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and cheated a marble businessman of Rs 5.34 lakh.

Ganesh Rajpurohit, a 54-year-old resident of Kharadi, filed a complaint at Wanowrie police station after the gang lured him into giving them Rs 30 lakh in exchange for fake currency notes. The gang threatened to kill him with a pistol if he told anyone about the fraud.

According to the police, Rajpurohit was introduced to one of the gang members, Rupali Raut, while drinking tea at Kharadi Bypass on March 26. Raut claimed to be acquainted with MLAs and MPs and said that she had a plan to triple Rajpurohit’s money. She introduced him to Sanjay Kumar Pandey, who posed as a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government and spoke to Rajpurohit on the phone. Pandey promised to return Rs 30 lakh if Rajpurohit paid Rs 5 lakh.

On March 30, the gang met Rajpurohit at Parmarnagar and showed him how they made fake currency notes using chemicals. They also threatened to kill him with a pistol if he told anyone about the fraud. Rajpurohit initially paid them Rs 4 lakh and later gave them a total of Rs 5.34 lakh. When he tried to contact Pandey and Raut after realizing that he had been cheated, he was unable to reach them.

The police have arrested Rupali Raut, Sanjay Kumar Pandey, Vikas Kumar Rawat, Sameer alias Vishal Ghogare, and Ashok Patil, all of whom are from Nilanga, District Latur, and Kolhapur. A case of fraud has been registered against them.
