Pune: Kalyani Nagar Citizens Applaud Yerwada Police for 15-Minute Helpline Response
Yerawada, 4th August 2025: In a heartwarming show of gratitude and community solidarity, residents of Kalyani Nagar on Monday felicitated Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke and Assistant Police Inspector Dinesh Patil of Yerwada Police Station.
The event, held at 12:30 PM on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, was not only a celebration of their dedicated service but also a symbolic gesture of trust—residents tied Rakhis to the officers, acknowledging them as guardians of the community.
The felicitation comes in recognition of the Yerwada police team’s prompt and consistent action, particularly through the emergency helpline 112. Residents noted that the average response time has been approximately 15 minutes, reflecting a strong commitment to citizen safety and public service.
Police as Protectors and Partners
Over the past several months, residents say they’ve seen noticeable improvements in how civic issues—especially noise pollution and law and order concerns—have been handled in their neighborhood. From intervening in public disturbances to proactive patrolling, the Yerwada police have been credited with a more responsive and approachable stance.
“Felicitating PI Shelke sir and API Patil sir was a small step in acknowledging a big effort. Tying Rakhis to our police officers was emotional. It showed that we see them not just as authorities, but as protectors and part of our extended community,” said Monica Sharma, a long-time resident of Kalyani Nagar.
Building a Bond Beyond the Badge
The occasion of Raksha Bandhan served as a perfect backdrop for this unique community-police engagement. Traditionally, the festival celebrates the bond of protection between siblings. In this instance, it was a metaphorical yet powerful expression of mutual respect between citizens and those who serve them.
“On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, we residents of Kalyani Nagar tied Rakhi and felicitated Senior PI Shelke sir and PI Dinesh Patil sir, who have been actively involved in curbing law and order issues in the area. It was a small gesture of our gratitude and appreciation for the protection and support we have always received. We are very thankful and committed to building a positive community-police relationship,” said Yasmin Charania, another resident and one of the event’s key organizers.
More Than Just Policing
Senior PI Ravindra Shelke and API Dinesh Patil were both visibly moved by the gesture. While the officers did not make formal speeches, sources from the Yerwada Police Station confirmed that they appreciated the community’s recognition and reiterated their dedication to public safety and cooperation.
The event also included light refreshments and informal conversations between residents and officers, allowing for greater dialogue and understanding.
A Model for Community Policing
As urban areas across the country grapple with strained citizen-police relations, the initiative in Kalyani Nagar stands out as a model for proactive community engagement. It not only strengthens the human connection behind the uniform but also encourages a collaborative approach to neighborhood safety.
In an age where trust in public institutions often wavers, small gestures like this remind us of the powerful impact of empathy, appreciation, and shared responsibility.
