Pune: Keshav Nagar Residents Spend Lakhs On Water Tankers Due To Irregular Supply

Mundhwa, 20th March 2023: The residents of Keshav Nagar in Pune are facing acute water scarcity, which has resulted in an increase in the demand for water tankers. Due to irregular water supply, the housing societies and gated communities have to rely on water tankers for their daily needs. Some societies require as many as three to four tankers every day, leading to a monthly expense of lakhs of rupees.

Unfortunately, this situation has given rise to the notorious “tanker mafia” in Keshav Nagar.

The problem started when Keshav Nagar was incorporated into the Pune Municipal Corporation in 2018. Despite receiving a water bill and tax, the residents are still unable to access regular water supply, hence the reliance on water tankers. Many societies in the area have not conducted annual audits, and paperless expenses are shown, which raises questions about financial transparency.

The situation is worsened by the tanker mafia, which has been thriving in the area. Some societies have reported that relatives of landowners supply the tankers and charge an exorbitant fare of Rs 25,000 per tanker. Members who speak up or complain to the committee are allegedly issued death threats. However, complaints to the cooperative department or the registrar have been unfruitful, as officials from both departments allegedly work in collusion with the committee members.

The residents of Keshav Nagar are in dire need of a solution to this problem, as the current situation is not sustainable. The authorities must take immediate action to regulate the tanker mafia and ensure a regular water supply to the residents.
