Pune: Kidnapped One-Year-Old Boy Found At Same Spot After Two Days

Pune, November 25, 2020: A one-year-old baby boy who was was kidnapped by two women on Monday, while he was sleeping in his mother’s arms under a bridge in Hadapsar has been found in the same place today.

Hadapsar police have arrested accused Panchshila Tipanna Melinkeri (33), Vaishali Tulsriram Sonkamble (41) and Kernath Nagnath Suryawanshi. Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Thorat is investigating the case.

According to police, Sharmila Kale and one-year-old Karthik were living with relatives under the flyover in Hadapsar. On Monday, around 5 am, the baby, who was sleeping next to the mother, was found missing. His family then searched the area but did not find him. The incident came to light when the complaint was lodged by Kale with Hadapsar police station.

While investigating the case via CCTV monitoring, two women were seen driving towards Solapur Road. Accordingly, the officials began to investigate. Police officials laid a trap near Tulja Bhavani hotel at Chaufula and arrested the three accused.

Upon questioning, Panchshila said, “It’s been 15 years that me and my husband Tulsidas Melinkari have been married, but we couldn’t bear a child. We thought of adopting a child from the orphanage but due to the COVID situation, it was not possible. So I asked my elder sister Vaishali, and brother-in-law Kernath. After we got to know that police is investigating this case, we immediately kept the child at the same place from where we had stolen.”

Additional Commissioner of Police (East region) Namdev Chavan, DCP (Zone 5) Namrata Patil and ACP Kalyan Vidhate supervised the police investigation team which was led by Senior Police Inspector Balkrishna Kadam and Inspector (crime) Raju Adagale. The team included Assistant Police Inspector Sanjay Chavan, Police Sub Inspector Saurabh Mane, Head Constables Pradip Sonawane, Pratap Gaikwad, Police Naik Vinod Shivle, Saidoba Bhojrao, Sameer Pandule, Sandip Rathod, Avinash Gosavi, Nitin Mundhe, Constables Akbar Shaikh, Shashikant Nale, Shahid Shaikh, Prashant Tonpe, Sachin Jadhav, Prashant Dudhal, Umakant Swami and Nikhil Pawar.
