Pune: Kidnapped Youth Rescued From Car on Samruddhi Mahamarg, Six Detained
Pune, 4th September 2026: A youth allegedly kidnapped from Chikhali in Pimpri Chinchwad was rescued by Highway Police after the car carrying him towards Uttar Pradesh was intercepted on the Samruddhi Mahamarg late Wednesday night.
Six suspects were detained during the operation, conducted by the Babhaleshwar police team of the Pune Range Highway Police.
According to the Highway Security Team, the youth was abducted from Chikhali and was being taken by the suspects towards Sinnar before they entered the Samruddhi Mahamarg to travel towards Nagpur and then Uttar Pradesh. The Samruddhi Mahamarg Control Room in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar alerted the Babhaleshwar Highway Police after receiving information about the abduction.
The police team immediately set up a roadblock and spotted the suspected vehicle, bearing channel number 523, speeding towards Nagpur. The team pursued the car and intercepted it at channel number 520. The youth was safely rescued and all six suspects were detained along with the vehicle.
After a preliminary inquiry, the Highway Police contacted Chikhali police and handed over the matter for further legal action.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Pune Range Superintendent of Police Dr Shivaji Pawar, Deputy Superintendent Pornima Bandal and Ahilyanagar division Police Inspector Sonali Raskar. Police Sub-Inspector Balkrishna Thombare led the operation.
Officials said the prompt sharing of information by the control room and highway patrol teams, coupled with coordination between police units, helped ensure the youth’s safe rescue.
