Pune: Kondhwa Police Arrest Notorious Burglar Involved In Over 150 Burglaries, Recover Valuables Worth Rs 22.2 Lakhs
Pune, 7th September 2023: A notorious thief with a criminal history of over 150 daytime burglaries has been apprehended by the Kondhwa Police. Authorities have successfully recovered jewelry valued at Rs 22.2 lakh from his possession.
The arrested thief has been identified as Sangat Singh Ajmer Singh Kalyani, a 40-year-old resident of Loni Kalbhor.
The daytime burglaries had been plaguing the Kondhwa police station limits, prompting Senior Police Inspector Santosh Sonwane, Police Inspector Sanjay Mogle, and Police Inspector Sandeep Bhosle, under the guidance of Investigation Team Officer Assistant Police Inspector Anil Survase, to launch a search for the culprit. Their relentless efforts led to the tracking and identification of the suspect, Sangat Singh Ajmer Singh Kalyani.
Upon learning that the suspect resided at Theur Phata, the police proceeded to his residence for an arrest. However, the accused resisted arrest by barricading himself inside his house, leading to a standoff that lasted for 4 to 5 hours.
In a desperate attempt to evade capture, the accused tried to escape through a back door. However, the police effectively surrounded his residence from all sides, set up a trap, and ultimately apprehended him.
Investigations have revealed that the accused was wanted in connection with 15 criminal cases and had previously been involved in 150 cases of burglary. These crimes were typically committed during the daytime without the presence of an accomplice. The burglars would disguise themselves by tying a handkerchief over their mouths and wearing a cap on their heads to avoid detection.
This successful operation was carried out under the supervision of Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar, Joint Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, and Additional Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma.
