Pune: Kondhwa Police Crack Down on Bullet Riders Using Modified Silencers

Kondhwa, 1st March 2025: The Kondhwa police have taken strict action against Bullet riders who were disturbing residents by creating loud, firecracker-like noises with modified silencers. Over the past few days, incidents of high-speed Bullet riding with excessively loud exhaust sounds had been on the rise in the city and surrounding areas.
Responding to multiple complaints, the police seized and destroyed 20 such modified silencers using a road roller.
Several citizens, especially elderly residents and students, had raised concerns about the disturbance caused by the deafening noise. With 10th and 12th board exams underway, many locals from the Kondhwa area demanded immediate action against these riders. Acting on these complaints, the Kondhwa police initiated a special drive and took penal action against 20 Bullet riders for using silencers that exceeded permissible noise levels. The silencers were confiscated and later crushed under a municipal road roller as part of the crackdown.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde, Assistant Commissioner Dhanyakumar Godse, Senior Police Inspector of Kondhwa Police Station Vinay Patankar, and Crime Branch Inspector Rauf Sheikh, along with their team.
A similar crackdown was conducted a week ago in the Loni Kalbhor area, where silencers emitting noise above the legal limit were seized.
The trend of modifying silencers has been growing, particularly among Bullet riders, leading to increasing noise pollution. The traffic department had earlier taken action against such modifications in various parts of the city, including penalizing shopkeepers and garage operators involved in selling these illegal silencers.
Authorities have reiterated that modified silencers are banned, and strict action will continue against those violating the noise regulations. The police have warned Bullet riders that further offences will result in harsher penalties.
