Pune: Kondhwa Residents Protest Demanding Better Roads And Traffic Management

Kondhwa, 16th October 2022: The traffic between Gangadham and Shatrunjay Mandir Road is increasing rapidly. In the absence of any fresh notification seeking a ban on heavy vehicles, they enter the locality. The traffic scenario has turned from bad to worse and leads to frequent accidents. This causes inconvenience to the residents of Kondhwa. Thus, to draw the attention of the Municipal Corporation, Kondhwa Development Forum has decided to protest against the officials.
The protest started at Aai Mata Mandir at 8:00 am. The protestors were told to wear white, with black ribbons. The rally went up to Gangadham Chowk. The protestors used the slogans “No Road No Tax,” “Vahtuk Kondi sutlich paheje, ha rasta zalach pahije (The traffic should be reduced and the road should be made)” and “Amchya magnya purn kara, nahitr khurchya khali kara (Fulfil our demands or else leave the chair).”
One of the protesters said, “Kondhwa Development Forum is a group where we discuss the problems and find a solution officially. For the last six months, we have been trying to reach officials regarding this problem but ignorance is what we received. Thus, a rally was the only choice left.”

Talking about the demands, another protestor said, “Though heavy vehicles are not allowed on this road, they do pass from this way which causes fatal accidents. We need a helpline number for this road which we can contact in case of accidents.”
The protestors asked for a signal or a divider so that traffic can be managed, and accidents can be reduced.
“Temporarily, we can at least use boards to guide the drivers,” Assistant Police Inspector Balasaheb Murhe said. “I am trying my best to manage the traffic. Necessary actions will be taken against this problem.”
