Kothrud, 5th July 2025: Around 30,000 residents of the Bhusari Colony in Kothrud are facing severe inconvenience due to frequent and prolonged power outages that have persisted daily for the past month. Residents report that electricity is being cut off at least ten times a day, disrupting daily life and causing significant hardship, especially for the elderly and those working from home.

Senior citizen Prakash Punde shared that with the constant outages, basic activities have become a struggle. “Earlier, electricity would be cut only on Thursdays for maintenance. Now, it goes off any day, at any time. Without power, lifts stop working, and at my age, climbing two or three floors is very difficult. Watching TV or working on a laptop is impossible. Despite repeated complaints, we receive only evasive responses,” he said.

Jayashree Wankhede echoed these concerns, highlighting how the lack of electricity affects food storage and daily routines. “When the power is out in the early morning, it’s hard to see or step outside. The fridge stops working, so vegetables and milk spoil. Temporary repairs are made, but the problem persists,” she explained.

For many, the outages have also disrupted remote work. Resident Rajeev Nigadikar pointed out, “With work-from-home, I need reliable electricity. When it goes out, my laptop and mobile can’t be charged, and water supply is also affected.” Ramesh Bhoj added that the outages occur unpredictably, at all hours of the day and night.

Responding to mounting frustration, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) stated that efforts are underway to minimize the duration of power interruptions. They explained that outages are sometimes caused by natural obstacles or human-made issues, but assured that their teams are available at all times to address complaints. MSEDCL urged residents to report issues by calling the 1912 helpline, which allows for quicker identification and resolution of faults.
