Kalyani Nagar, 13th April 2025: A late-night altercation at a Kalyani Nagar pub involving sons of political figures escalated into a street fight early Friday morning, prompting the Pune Police to seal the establishment under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
According to Yerawada Police Station officials, the incident took place around 1:00 am on April 11 at “Budget Room by Unicorn House,” located inside Celebram IT Park. However, no formal police complaint has been lodged from either side.
Preliminary investigation suggests that a group of youths, including the son of a former corporator from Yerawada, instigated the fight. The group allegedly began vandalizing property after being denied service. Pub staff reportedly retaliated, brutally assaulting the corporator’s son. Later, the son of a sitting MLA from Pimpri Chinchwad arrived at the scene in an attempt to mediate the dispute.
By the time police reached the venue around 1:45 am, the establishment was closed, and cleaning work was in progress. “The restaurant is not at fault. These individuals arrived after hours, and we refused to serve them liquor. Following that, they began vandalizing the premises. Our staff managed to push them outside, and that’s when the altercation happened,” said the pub owner. “We voluntarily submitted the full CCTV footage to police as evidence.”
Despite the serious nature of the incident, no case has been filed, reportedly due to political pressure from both sides.

Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke, in-charge of Yerawada Police Station, confirmed action against the pub. “The pub (earlier known as Unicorn House) has a record of two criminal cases and ten ‘khatla’ cases. Based on its history, we have sealed the premises under Section 142(2) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949,” he said.
When asked about any FIR being registered, Inspector Shelke added, “No one has filed a complaint regarding the fight that took place at the said place.”
