Pune, 29th December 2023: A bribe demand case has come to light involving a private individual and a police sub-inspector, highlighting corruption within the law enforcement system.

The complainant, a 70-year-old male, lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune, on December 9, 2023, accusing PSI Parvate of Junnar Police Station of demanding a bribe of Rs 25,000 to facilitate his son’s bail in a legal case.

Upon verification by the ACB on the same day, it was discovered that the alleged bribe demand was not initiated by the police officer but by a private individual identified as Shivam Gajanan Naikodi, a 30-year-old lawyer from Junnar, Pune. Naikodi allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from the complainant to ensure the Investigating Officer PSI Parvate facilitated the bail for the complainant’s son.

Tragically, the complainant passed away suddenly on December 17, 2023. In light of his demise, a complaint has been filed by the government, leading to the initiation of a case under Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Junnar Police Station, Pune Rural.

The Trap Squad included Inspector Rupesh Jadhav, Police Constable Mane, and Komal Shete.

Amol Tambe, the Superintendent of Police at the ACB, has urged citizens to promptly report any instances of government officers or employees soliciting bribes for services other than the prescribed fees for government work.
