Pune: Leopard Attacks Woman In Jaulke, Third Incident In Two Days In Khed Taluka

Pune, 12th May 2022: A woman has been attacked by a leopard in Jaulke (Tal. Khed). Lata Shivaji Borhade (42) was seriously injured in the incident which took place at 6 am on Thursday (May 12). Her condition is said to be critical by the Forest Department.

It is reported that there is a Zilla Parishad school in the vicinity of the village and the victim’s house in front of the school. As soon as she came out of her house in the morning, she was attacked by a leopard.

On Tuesday (May 10), two leopards attacked two women at two different places in Retwadi village near Jaulke. One of the women was in critical condition at Sassoon Hospital in Pune when another attack took place in the same area this morning, leaving the locals in a state of panic.

After the attack two days ago, a team of officials from Rajgurunagar Forest Department and Forest Department at Manikdoh raided the area to find out about the leopard. They also set up cages in two places to seize the leopard. However, the efforts of the forest department have been wasted due to the second attack in the area.

After receiving information about the incident on Thursday morning, forest rangers PS Raundhal, Dattatraya Phapale, Shivaji Rathod and Sandeep Arun reached the spot. By the time the injured woman was rushed to Chandoli Rural Hospital for treatment. However, the citizens are in a state of panic. The night time is already terrifying, but now the citizens are afraid to go out during the day.

The left canal of Chaskaman Dam passes through this area. Due to the scarcity of water, farmers have resorted to horticultural crops. Due to load shedding, crops have to be irrigated at night. However, due to these incidents, the farmers have become distraught. Forest officials have to face the wrath of the citizens.

According to the information given by citizens along with the observations of the last two days, it is said that there are two leopards which have been spotted in the area. There is an atmosphere of fear among the citizens. Forest officials have been instructed to take immediate action as the citizens are enduring deadly attacks. If there is any delay in forest administration, strict action will have to be taken.
