Pune: Leopard Rescued In Hadapsar Who Had Attacked Man On Morning Walk

Hadapsar, 27th October 2021: A leopard who had attacked a man in Gosavi Vasti during a morning walk on Tuesday, was caught around midnight in Hadapsar.

The leopard had attacked Sambhaji Baban Atode (45) around 6 am on Tuesday while he was on a morning walk with his friend near Gosavi Vasti behind Serum Institute of India premises. He sustained injuries on his legs, back and face. He was admitted to Sassoon hospital where his condition is said to be out of danger.

Around 8 pm, the leopard was seen in a narrow lane near a house located about 100 meters from the spot where he had attacked in the morning. Sachin Atole and Vishwas Gaikwad informed the forest department’s patrolling staff about the presence of the leopard near their house.

Accordingly, the teams reached there and rescue work began around 9 pm. The team used three tranquiliser injections to make the leopard unconscious. Earlier nets were put up around the spot so that the leopard does not escape.

Pune Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF) Rahul Patil said, “Pune Forest Department has successfully captured the leopard in a human settlement at Hadapsar within 24 hours.

The Primary Response Team (PRT) set up by the Pune Forest Department helps in handling human-wildlife conflict.

The rescue team included Pune police, Pune Municipal Corporation staff, Indian Herpetological Society, RESQ, Honorary Wildlife Conservators.”
