Pune: Leopard Spotted Crossing Road Near INS Shivaji in Lonavala, Tourist Captures Video

Lonavala, 11th August 2026: Tourists visiting Lonavala for its monsoon scenery were in for a surprise when a leopard was spotted crossing a road near the Indian Naval Ship Shivaji (INS Shivaji) area. A tourist travelling on a two-wheeler captured a video of the leopard as it crossed the road.

The video of the leopard sighting has since been widely shared on social media. The incident occurred as tourists were recording the lush green surroundings in the area. With the monsoon bringing greenery, waterfalls and other attractions to life, Lonavala has been witnessing a large influx of tourists.

The leopard was seen crossing a winding road near the INS Shivaji premises. The tourist noticed the animal and managed to record it from a safe distance. The sighting has raised concern among some residents and tourists, particularly as locals in the Andar Maval area have also reported spotting a leopard in recent days.

The forested areas and hill ranges around Lonavala are home to several species of wildlife. During the monsoon, wild animals may occasionally move closer to roads and human settlements in search of food or while moving through their habitat.

The Forest Department has advised residents and tourists to exercise caution while travelling on roads near forested areas, particularly at night. People should avoid approaching or following wild animals and remain alert while driving, especially on roads passing through or close to forest areas.

The department has also appealed to people not to approach, chase, photograph or attempt to drive away a leopard or any other wild animal. Anyone who spots wildlife should maintain a safe distance and immediately inform the Forest Department.
