Pune Noise Pollution: Wanowrie-NIBM Residents Give Police 48-Hour Ultimatum Over Dhol-Tasha Rehearsals
Wanowrie, 10th August 2026: Residents of Raheja Reserve in Pune’s NIBM-Wanowrie area have given the Pune Police and local authorities a 48-hour ultimatum to act against alleged noise pollution caused by dhol-tasha rehearsal sessions near residential complexes.
A delegation representing the Raheja Reserve Residents Association met Additional Commissioner of Police (East Zone) Manoj Patil at the Pune Police Commissionerate on Monday and submitted a memorandum outlining its concerns.
According to a press release issued by the association, residents complained that prolonged, high-decibel rehearsals were affecting senior citizens, children, patients and working professionals. They also alleged that some practice sessions continued late into the evening and during hours when residents were most likely to be at home.
The association said its representatives were disappointed with the outcome of the meeting, claiming that they did not receive assurances of immediate enforcement or a concrete plan to address the problem.
Following the meeting, residents held a community briefing and unanimously decided to give the authorities 48 hours to initiate action. They warned that they would organise a peaceful road protest if no tangible steps were taken within the deadline.
“We respect local cultural traditions, but high-decibel noise pollution for weeks on end right in front of residential high-rises is severely impairing health, sleep and peace of mind,” representatives of the delegation said in a joint statement.
The residents have demanded strict enforcement of permissible noise limits under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. They have also called for the relocation of dhol-tasha rehearsal grounds from densely populated residential areas to suitable non-residential locations.
Other demands include enforcing a mandatory cut-off time, increasing police patrols, taking action against habitual violators and deploying a dedicated noise-monitoring team equipped with sound-level meters in the Wanowrie-NIBM area.
The association has also sought the seizure of sound equipment found to be violating applicable rules.
