Pune: Lohgaon, Vadgaon Sheri, Nagar Road Face Water Shortage Due to Bhama Askhed Malfunction

Viman Nagar, 5th March 2025: A sudden cable fire inside the jackwell of Bhama Askhed dam around noon today led to a complete halt in water supply to several areas, including Lohgaon, Vadgaon Sheri, and Nagar Road. The disruption caused significant inconvenience to residents, with repair work continuing late into the night. Water supply is expected to be restored by Thursday afternoon.
“The fire in the cable at Bhama Askhed’s jackwell led to the disruption of water supply in several areas. The repair work has been completed, but some disruptions may continue for a short period,” said Nandkishore Jagtap, Head of the Water Supply Department.
The Bhama Askhed dam, located approximately 63 kilometers from Pune, is a crucial water source for multiple localities, including Vadgaon Sheri, Sanjay Park, Viman Nagar, MHADA Colony, S.R.A. Part, Kulkarni Garage Part, Yamunanagar, Rajiv Gandhi North and South, Vishrantwadi, Dhanori, Lohgaon, Chandannagar, Kharadi, and Nagar Road.
For the past few days, Vadgaon Sheri residents had already been experiencing water shortages. The situation worsened today when the pumping system was completely shut down due to the cable fire inside the jackwell. Immediate repair work was initiated and completed late at night. However, since the jackwell remained non-functional for nearly 10 hours, water supply was severely affected throughout the day.
Although pumping operations resumed late at night, water shortages are expected to persist in Nagar Road and surrounding areas on Thursday, March 6.
