Pune: Lonavala Police Recover Rs 22 Lakh Fine From Over 3000 Tourists, FIRs Registered Against Over 100 People
Pune, 23rd June 2021: Tourism is banned in the Pune district due to the high COVID positivity rate. However, many tourists from Pune and Mumbai are going to Lonavala for sightseeing. Lonavala police have recovered Rs 22 lakh fine from over 3000 tourists for violation of COVID rules. Also, cases have been registered against over 100 tourists.
As soon as the monsoon season begins, tourists from Mumbai, Pune and nearby areas visit Lonavala, Khandala to enjoy the rain, to take a sip of tea with hot corn amid cold winds.
After a long lockdown, people are now allowed to go out of the home. However, tourist places are not open in the district. But tourists in large numbers from various districts of Maharashtra especially Mumbai and Pune had been seen on weekends in Lonavala and Khandala. Strict actions have been taken on them for breaking lockdown.
To prevent the outbreak of corona, Pune District Magistrate has imposed section 144 due to a high number of COVID patients in Lonavala, Khandala and its nearby areas. Therefore, five or more than five persons are not allowed to gather in public places. But still, a lot of tourists have been flocking to Lonavala.
Lonavala city and Lonavala rural police stations have appealed to people not to visit Lonavala, Khandala and its nearby areas. To inform tourists about this, notice boards have been put up by Lonavala Municipal Council, Lonavala City and Lonavala Rural Police as well as Gram Panchayats at various places. Police have blocked the main chowks of the city.
Senior Police Inspector Dilip Pawar of Lonavala City Police Station said that actions have been taken against more than three thousand tourists so far for violating the government rules. Over Rs 22 lakhs fine have been collected from them. Along with this, police have registered FIRs against more than a hundred tourists.
