Pune: Maharashtra CM Fadnavis Urges Swift Action on Pakistani Nationals, Warns of Water Cut Impact on Pakistan

Pune, 26th April 2025: Following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 28 lives, including six from Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasised the need for decisive action against Pakistani nationals residing in India while speaking to the media in Pune. He stated, “Those who have come on visas from Pakistan have been issued notices and are leaving. Police are working efficiently to ensure their removal within 48 hours.” The attack, carried out on April 22, targeted tourists in the Baisaran Valley and has escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, prompting India to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and order Pakistani citizens to leave the country.
Fadnavis further warned, “Pakistan depends heavily on the water from the Indus river. If India starts restricting this water, Pakistan will literally face a time of starvation.” He condemned Pakistan’s alleged support for terrorism, saying, “Their dependence on India is clear, yet they back terrorists and commit a form of humanity’s murder. No country in the world can stand with Pakistan in this situation.”
The Maharashtra government has assured full support to the six families of victims from the state. “All necessary assistance will be provided to the families affected by this tragic attack,” Fadnavis added. The central government, led by Home Minister Amit Shah, has directed all states to identify and expel Pakistani nationals, intensifying security and diplomatic responses after the Pahalgam massacre.
This attack marks one of the deadliest assaults on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, deepening the ongoing conflict and diplomatic strain between the two nations.
