Pune: Maharashtra DCM Ajit Pawar Orders Immediate Road Development After Anti-Encroachment Drives to Ease Traffic in Chakan and Hinjawadi
Pune, 8th August 2025: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District’s Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar has directed authorities to immediately develop roads in areas where encroachments are being removed, especially in Hinjawadi and Chakan, to ease severe traffic congestion. He emphasized that proper coordination among all departments is needed to widen roads and prevent re-encroachment.
Pawar chaired a review meeting at the PMRDA headquarters in Akurdi after inspecting traffic conditions in the Chakan area. He instructed that road development must begin as soon as encroachments are cleared, warning that failure to do so may lead to the reoccupation of these spaces.
The meeting was attended by MLAs Anna Bansode, Shankar Mandekar and Babaji Kale, Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Pune Zilla Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil, PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaj Pathan, and other senior officials from PWD, MIDC, and other departments.
The Chakan MIDC region faces persistent congestion due to poor roads and unauthorized constructions, creating problems for businesses, workers, and commuters. Pawar stressed that heavy vehicles contribute to traffic jams and called for restricted entry timings and the establishment of a truck terminal in the MIDC zone. He urged coordination between the RTO and police for effective traffic management.
Pawar also ordered urgent removal of garbage and encroachments and warned that any obstruction to road development would invite legal action.
PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Mhase presented a detailed plan, timelines, and a master plan to resolve traffic issues in Chakan.
Progress on Traffic Measures Satisfactory
Efforts over the past month to reduce congestion and address civic issues in Hinjawadi and nearby areas were reviewed. Pawar noted that the work done so far has been satisfactory and beneficial to citizens, and he instructed that remaining tasks continue at the same pace.
On-Ground Inspection in Chakan and MIDC Areas
Ajit Pawar also conducted a field inspection in Chakan and MIDC to understand local problems. He visited Bharat Mata Chowk (Moshi), Samruddhi Petrol Pump (Nanekarwadi), Medankarwadi–Sase Phata, Chakan Chowk, Ambethan Chowk, Chakan to Kadachiwadi, Hingne Chowk (Kharabwadi), and the Mahalunge Police MIDC Station Road. At each spot, he issued directives for necessary remedial action.
