Pune: Electricity Theft and Bill Defaults Won’t Be Tolerated: MSEDCL CMD Lokesh Chandra
Pune, 8th August 2025: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra has warned that electricity theft through illegal connections or meter tampering will not be tolerated. He instructed officials to launch a stricter campaign against power theft and initiate direct criminal action against violators. He also emphasised accelerating the recovery of pending electricity bills.
He was speaking at a review meeting held in Pune for the Pune Regional Division. Several key MSEDCL officials were present.
Chandra stressed the need to act strictly against meter tampering by domestic, commercial, or any type of consumers and to conduct criminal proceedings wherever such theft is detected. He added that connections permanently disconnected due to non-payment must be checked again for any irregularities. He raised concernsssss over the rising arrears and instructed officials to increase the pace of bill recovery and ensure accurate billing at every level.
He further stated that in Western Maharashtra, electricity demand is rising steadily. Hence, new connections and load enhancements must be completed within the stipulated time. Any delay in providing connections despthe the the the the the ite availability of power will not be tolerated. He also urged all local offices to proactively strengthen the infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted supply. MSEDCL has sufficient resources and funds for the same, he added.
Addressing complaints under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, he said that delays in resolving billing issues of rooftop solar customers will be taken seriously.
