Pune, 5th November 2025: The municipal elections across Maharashtra are likely to be postponed further as the State Election Commission is not expected to announce any new local body polls during the upcoming Winter Session of the State Legislature.

The results of the ongoing municipal council and nagar panchayat elections will be declared on December 3. The Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislature is scheduled from December 8 to 19. Traditionally, no election announcements are made during the session period, which means that the next round of elections—Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls—are expected to be announced only after December 19.

As a result, the municipal corporation elections may face further delays.

The Model Code of Conduct came into effect after the municipal council and nagar panchayat polls were announced. Voting is scheduled for December 2, with counting the next day.

Following this, the Winter Session will begin on December 8 and conclude on December 19.
Given the timeline, the second phase of local body elections—covering Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis—is likely to take place only after the session ends. These elections are expected by late January 2026.

With the board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 scheduled for February and March, the municipal corporation elections are now expected to be held only after March, sources said.

State Election Commission May Seek Extension from Supreme Court
The Supreme Court has directed the State Election Commission to complete all local body elections by January 31, 2026. According to the schedule, municipal council and nagar panchayat polls will be concluded in December, while Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections are likely in January.

However, given the tight schedule and administrative constraints, the State Election Commission is expected to approach the Supreme Court seeking an extension of the deadline for conducting municipal corporation elections.
