Pune: Maharashtra Prisons Showcase Inmates’ Products at Raksha Bandhan Exhibition

Pune, 25th August 2026: A sale and exhibition of products made by inmates across Maharashtra prisons was inaugurated on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan to showcase their skills and provide them with a market for their products.

The exhibition was inaugurated by noted actor Pooja Pawar-Salunkhe in the presence of Dr Suhas Warke, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services.

“Prisons are not merely places of punishment but correctional institutions. Inmates need to be equipped with job-oriented skills through various training programmes so that they can be brought back into the mainstream,” Warke said.

The prison department’s motto is ‘Reform and Rehabilitation’, and inmates are considered an integral part of society. Under the Maharashtra Prison Industries programme, inmates are provided with various skill-based training opportunities.

The exhibition features a range of products made by inmates, including furniture, home temples, decorative items, eco-friendly Ganesha idols, rakhis, clothes, hand towels, towels, bedsheets, blankets, bakery products and biscuits, among other items.

“Skill-based training will help inmates become financially self-reliant after their release and lead a dignified life in society using the skills they have acquired,” Warke said.

Pawar-Salunkhe appreciated the efforts of the prison administration and inmates and urged citizens to support their rehabilitation by purchasing products made by them.

Vidya Mhatre, president of Maher Mahila Pratishthan, was also present at the event.
