Pune: Man Accused in Rape Case Kidnaps Boy, Dies by Suicide, Victim Found Dead
Pune, 25th December 2024: A shocking incident has come to light involving a man who kidnapped a minor boy from Pune and subsequently died by suicide before law enforcement could apprehend him. The man had abducted his lover’s son to teach her and her husband a “lesson.” The 12-year-old boy was taken from Ambegaon Taluka in Pune district to Sangamner in the Ahilyanagar District. Despite police efforts to locate the boy, the kidnapper took his own life, leaving the boy’s whereabouts unknown for a time; he was later found dead.
The deceased kidnapper has been identified as Rajendra Rohidas Jambukar (27), a resident of Dholewadi in Sangamner Taluka, with a criminal history that includes four prior cases against him. The kidnapped boy’s mother had filed a rape case against him, and to pressure her into withdrawing it, he kidnapped her son.
Regarding the suicide, a case of accidental death has been registered at Sangamner City Police Station. The boy, identified as Aryan Vikram Chavan (12), was kidnapped on 11th December, and a case was filed at the Pargaon Karkhana Police Station following his father’s complaint. Police began searching for both the boy and the kidnapper.
On 23rd December, Pune Rural Police traced the accused to Dholewadi; however, he managed to escape before they could reach him. The following day, Jambukar was found dead at his home, having hanged himself. The search for the missing boy continued, and he was ultimately found dead near Rajapur in Sangamner.
Jambukar, who had a history of violent behaviour, had been released on bail after attacking his lover with a sharp weapon a year ago. Following his release, he committed the abduction, and now his death, along with the subsequent discovery of the boy’s body, adds a shocking twist to the case. Police were able to piece together events due to a meticulous investigation of CCTV footage and other evidence. A suicide note was found near Jambukar’s body, which provided significant insights into the situation. The investigation is ongoing in this matter.
