Pune man adopts Rhino to fulfill childhood dream

Pune, January 11, 2020: Shanatnu Aloney, an engineer from Chinchwad here, has adopted a one-horned rhinoceros for a period of three months at the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad.

He signed an MoU with zoo authorities and transferred the amount online which will be used to upkeep of the animal.

As a child I remember my teacher asking us to write an essay on ‘What would I do If I get a billion dollars?’ While the rest of my friends were busy fancying their new car and mansion, I wrote that I wanted my own Zoo. As crazy as it might sound, today is hopefully the first step to the dreams that may follow. Adopted this gorgeous Beauty. Always wanted to do it, hope it can make a difference”, Aloney posted on Facebook.

The zoo officials have started animal adoption scheme. They said gesture like Aloney’s will strengthen wildlife conservation efforts and awareness programmes of the zoo. The adoption scheme has launched to maintain healthy and hygienic environment, provide best medical facilities, nutritious food including dietary supplements to animals.

Officials said that other animals available for adoption include elephant, giraffe, tiger, lion, panther, jaguar, cheetah, bear, chimpanzee, rhino, hippo, hyena, wolf, wild dog, jackal, small cats, baboons, langur, crocodiles, monitor lizards, cobra, rat snakes, small birds, macaw, water birds etc.
