Pune: NDA Khadakwasla Undertakes Major Tree Plantation Drive

Pune, 24 July 2024: The National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla, known for its expansive 6,700-acre campus with dense vegetation, initiated a significant tree plantation drive aimed at enhancing the campus’s greenery and promoting environmental responsibility among its cadets and residents.
The event, held on 24 July 2024, was led by Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, AVSM, NM, Commandant of NDA. The drive saw the enthusiastic participation of the entire NDA fraternity, who collectively planted approximately 4,200 saplings. These saplings were generously provided by the Forest Department, Pune Division, and were planted at various strategic locations within the campus.
In addition to the NDA cadets and staff, students from Army Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and Aruna Chaudhary Mahadhyamik Vidyalaya at NDA took part in the Environmental Awareness Campaign themed “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in the Name of Mother). This campaign was designed to foster a deeper sense of environmental stewardship among the younger generation.
Vice Admiral Singh commended the collective effort, highlighting the significance of the large turnout and the positive impact such initiatives have on future generations. He stressed the importance of flora and fauna in maintaining ecological balance and urged everyone to actively contribute to preserving the environment.
“The tree plantation drive is one of the best gifts we can give to the next generation,” he remarked. “Flora and fauna are integral to our lives, and it is imperative for each one of us to contribute to maintaining ecological balance.”
