Pune, 12th February 2026: A city resident has alleged that he was overcharged at a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)–leased parking facility in Sukrawar Peth, raising fresh questions over transparency and accountability in public parking management.

Aniket Dhamale, who parked his car at the Mandai Parking (popularly known as Misal Parking) on February 10, said he was initially told to pay ₹250 for a few hours of parking despite there being no visible rate board at the site.

“Yesterday, I parked my car at Mandai Parking in Sukrawar Peth. At the entry gate, the staff gave me a receipt. When I came back after a few hours and showed the receipt at the exit, the representative told me the charges were ₹250,” Dhamale told Punekar News.

He said he objected to the amount and asked the staff to show where the parking rates were displayed.

“I told him it was way too much and asked him to show me where the charges were written. I said I would pay only if the rates were clearly displayed. He insisted I had to pay ₹250 and said there was no receipt for that amount,” Dhamale said.

According to Dhamale, the situation changed when he began recording the interaction on his phone.

“When I started making a video, he immediately changed his tone. He scanned my receipt again and suddenly generated a bill of ₹70. When I asked him on camera why he first told me to pay ₹250, he said he never said ₹250,” he alleged.

Dhamale suspects that car owners are being systematically overcharged at the facility due to the absence of any visible display of official parking rates.

“I understand that the parking management is trying to cheat vehicle owners by not putting up any board or flex showing the charges per hour. It’s very unfortunate that such cheating is happening in the city, that too at a PMC-leased parking lot,” he said.

He has demanded strict action and accountability from civic authorities and elected representatives.

“I request the Pune Municipal Commissioner, local MLA Hemant Rasane and Pune City MP Murlidhar Mohol to give an explanation to the citizens of Pune. Many people must have already been cheated by this parking scam,” Dhamale said.

He also urged other citizens to remain alert and speak up. “I appeal to people to raise awareness, not to get cheated, and to complain immediately if they are scammed,” he added.

The incident has sparked concern over parking transparency in Pune, especially at PMC-authorised facilities, where citizens expect fair and clearly defined charges.
