Pune: Man Assaults Traffic Officer in Alandi, Arrested for Intimidation and Violence

Alandi, 4th January 2025: A local man has been arrested for assaulting a traffic police officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC) while he was on duty. The incident occurred yesterday around 11:15 AM in Alandi, when the accused attacked the officer after being fined for violating traffic rules.
Assistant Police Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ankush Kanhu Wadekar (54), currently posted at the Dighi Alandi Traffic Division, filed a complaint at Alandi Police Station. The accused, identified as Vijay Namdev Jare (33), a resident of Alandi Devachi, has been charged with multiple offences, including assaulting a public servant, criminal intimidation, and obstructing a public servant from performing official duties.
According to the police, ASI Wadekar was managing traffic at Markal Chowk in Alandi when Jare approached him aggressively. Enraged over a previous traffic challan, Jare allegedly confronted the officer, saying, “Don’t you know who I am? I’m a local here. You dare issue me a challan? Do you want to live here or not?”
The situation escalated when Jare grabbed ASI Wadekar’s uniform by the collar, tearing off a button, and physically attacked him with kicks and punches. The assault not only injured the officer but also caused significant traffic congestion in the area.
Following the incident, Jare was arrested, and Police Sub-Inspector Borkar of Alandi Police Station is leading the investigation.
